After the results of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav made his first remarks since his party’s loss even as it increased its vote share and seat count as compared to 2017.
Mr. Yadav tweeted in Hindi to thank voters in Uttar Pradesh who “who increased our seats by 2.5 times and our vote share by 1.5 times. We have shown that the BJP’s seat share can be reduced. This reduction from BJP will continue. More than half of the illusions and lies has gone, the remaining will go as well. The struggle for public welfare will win!”

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) had been relentlessly targeted by Akhilesh Yadav, and the Samajwadi Party quickly emerged as the main opposition force in the state in terms of public turnout and media interactions.
The BJP commented on the results, saying that the inability of the Samajwadi Party and the broader opposition to unseat it from power means that it had brought about “the sunset of dynastic politics”.
