Abdul Hamil al Matar, a senior leader of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, has been killed in a US airstrike in northwestern Syria. Army Major John Rigsbee of Central Command (CENTCOM)confirmed the strike and said that there were no civilian casualties: “A US airstrike today in northwestern Syria killed senior al-Qaeda leader Abdul Hamil al Matar. We have no indications of civilian casualties as a result of the strike, which was conducted using an MQ-9 aircraft”.
Explaining the purpose of the attack, he said: "The removal of this al-Qaeda senior leader will disrupt the terrorist organization's ability to further plot and carry out global attacks threatening US citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians”
The US will continue its measures against threats to its homeland by entities such as al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups.
