Centre: No More Covid-19 Restrictions After March 31, But Masks Will Stay

On March 31, all existing Covid restrictions imposed by the Centre will be lifted. The Disaster Management Act will no longer be used for Covid-safety measures, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs on March 31. In public settings, though, masks will still be required.

"The Disaster Management Act will no longer be needed for Covid containment measures," an MHA official said.

Under the Disaster Management Act, the Centre's measures for Covid safety would expire on March 31.

The decision by the Centre comes as cases of BA.2-a sub variation of Omicron are on the rise in China, South Korea, Vietnam, France, and Germany.

India, on the other hand, is far more equipped to combat the illness. Until Wednesday, March 23, India's vaccination campaign was still going strong, with over 1,81,89,15,234 persons immunised.

The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) has reduced the dosing interval for Covishield, stating that the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine can now be given eight to 16 weeks after the first injection.

Under the National Covid-19 Vaccination Strategy, the second dosage of Covishield is now given 12 to 16 weeks following the first dose.

India is now immunising everyone above the age of 12.
