Counting of votes has begun for the assembly elections of five states. All eyes are on Uttar Pradesh where the main contest is between the Samajwadi Party and the Bhartiya Janata Party. For Yogi Adityanath and Akhilesh Yadav, this election is to save their credibility. Whereas, the other state is Punjab where defeat and victory is a question of future politics for both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.
On the other hand, Uttarakhand and Goa are among the important states where the contest is between the Congress and the Bhartiya Janata Party. Although the Congress government is not being formed in both Uttarakhand and Goa in the exit polls, but in Uttarakhand, it was being told that there was a close contest. However, the Congress government in Manipur fell after the legislators' switched sides, which is a question of regaining power for the party.
Polling began on February 10 in five states - Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur - and 690 seats went to polls in a phased manner. Voting for the 2022 Legislative Assemblies elections had ended with the seventh phase of Uttar Pradesh which was held on 7 March.
Manipur elections were held in two phases - on February 28 and March 5, Punjab went to polls on February 20, while Uttarakhand and Goa went to the polls on February 14.
