Coronavirus Back In America, New Variant BA.2 Shows 35% Increase

The coronavirus has returned once again in many countries. Cases of the new variant BA.2 of the infection is increasing rapidly in some parts of the northeastern states of America.

At present, an average of 28,600 cases are being registered per day in the country. In the US in January, an average of eight lakh cases were being registered per day.

Apart from these, 900 lives are being lost due to Covid - where a total of one million people have died due to infection in about a month.

But Rochelle Valensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), told reporters there were early signs of a new wave.

He said that, "We have seen a small increase in reported COVID-19 cases in New York State and New York City, and some increase in people in hospital with COVID-19 in New England, particularly where the BA.2 variant reaching levels above 50 per cent."

The BA.2 variant does not cause severe diseases the the original Omicron, BA.1, The BA. 2 variant currently accounts for 35% of the rising cases nationally in the US and is expected to spread to a greater extent soon.
