Cyclone Burevi To Make Landfall At Tamil Nadu, Kerala Coasts Today, Hundreds Shifted From Disaster-Prone Areas

Cyclone Burevi is expected to make landfall at the coasts of Tamil Nadu and southern Kerala, the India Meteorological Department said in its latest bulletin, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated places in these areas, including Puducherry, Karaikal and Mahe. 

The cyclonic storm weakened into a deep depression and is likely to move west-southwestwards crossing Ramanathapuram and adjoining Tuticorin district with a wind speed of 50-60 kph, gusting up to 70 mph.

A public holiday has been declared in five districts in Kerala; in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Idukki. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reviewed the situation and asked people to exercise extreme caution till the storm is over.
The Thiruvananthapuram International airport will remain shut on December 4 for eight hours from 10 am to 6 pm and over 2000 relief camps have been set up.
The Kerala district administration here has opened 217 relief camps and 15,840 people have been shifted there from disaster-prone areas.
