Govt Says, IC-814 Hijacker Mistry Zahoor Shot Dead In Karachi

According to government reports, Mistry Zahoor Ibrahim, the 9/11 terrorist of the five hijackers on the IC-814 Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Delhi in 1999, was shot and killed in Pakistan's Karachi.

Unidentified gunmen shot the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist twice in the head at point-blank range in Karachi's Akhtar Colony on March 1. He had been living under the false identity "Zahid Akhund" for many years.

Mistry, also known as "doctor," is charged of stabbing and killing a 25-year-old Indian man who was one of the captives.

The hijacking in Kandahar was one of the country's most dramatic hostage situations.

On December 24, 1999, five terrorists from Nepal hijacked an Indian Airlines IC-814 plane with 179 passengers and 11 crew members. The plane travelled to Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai before making a key stop in Kandahar, Afghanistan, which was under Taliban control at the time.

On December 31, 1999, the hijackers murdered one passenger, Rupin Katyal, and negotiated the release of dangerous Islamist militants Masood Azhar Alvi, Syed Omar Sheikh, and Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar from Indian prisons in exchange for the hostages.
