India Refuses To Commit To Net-Zero Emissions Ahead Of COP 26

India has refused to set a net-zero emissions target by 2050, saying that it Is more important to reduce emissions. Environmental secretary Rameshwar Prasad Gupta was quoted by media as saying ““It is how much carbon you are going to put in the atmosphere before reaching net-zero that is more important.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the COP 26 climate conference that will begin from October 31st in Glasgow, UK. Other G20 leaders like China, Russia, and Brazil’s Presidents are not expected to attend.

Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said India was progressing towards the targets of the 2015 Paris Climate agreement An important outcome and yardstick of the success of the conference in Glasgow would be developed countries financially supporting the developing world in cutting emissions while ensuring their economic growth.
