Maharashtra Govt To Impose Night Curfew, Halts Flights From UK Amid Mutated Virus Fears

The Maharashtra government on Monday announced night curfew from 11 pm to 6 am in major cities from 22 December to 5 January as a precautionary measure amid growing fears about a new coronavirus variant spreading in UK, an official said.

However, essential services like vegetable and milk supply will remain unaffected during the night curfew but more than five people can not assemble at a place during the seven-hour-long period.

Moreover, the Uddhav-led government also imposed a 14-day institutional quarantine for flyers from Europe and other West Asian countries landing in Maharashtra, the official added.

It is being said the mutated virus can be 70 percent more infectious than the coronovirus. In view of the prevailing situation, so far more than 40 countries have banned flights coming from Britain, while its neighboring countries have also started sealing their borders with Britain.
