Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict: Civilians Killed As Armenia, Azerbaijan Accuse Each Other Of Cross-Border Shelling

In fresh instances of cross-border shelling, Azerbaijan and Armenia have accused each other of killing civilians in and around the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Azerbaijan claimed 21 of its civilians were killed after Armenian shells hit the town of Barda, northeast of Nagorno-Karabakh while Armenian-backed officials in Nagorno-Karabakh alleged Azerbaijan shells killed one person. Both countries have denied each other's claims.

Fighting over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, the mountainous territory internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but run by ethnic Armenians, erupted on 27 September.

The fighting in the South Caucasus has been ongoing for nearly 30 years and has raised fears of a full-blown war.
