Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced parliamentary and presidential elections, the first in 15 years, will take place later this year in a bid to heal longstanding internal divisions.
He signed a decree in this regard and directed all election reviewers and states to initiate the process of a democratic election. In 2005, Mahmoud Abbas was elected President for four years.
The presidential, national council, and parliamentary elections will be held in Palestine. It has set a date of 22 May for parliamentary elections, 31 July for presidential elections, and 31 August for national council elections.
