Plea Challenging Rakesh Asthana As Delhi Top Cop To Be Heard By Supreme Court

The Supreme Court will hear the petition challenging the appointment of Rakesh Asthana as the Delhi Police Commissioner. The bench which would be headed by Justice NV Ramana and Justice Surya Kant would hear the matter on Thursday.

The petition was filed by a lawyer, ML Sharma who had challenged the appointment as being a violation of 2018 Supreme Court order that said the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) should, as far as practical, consider only officials with two years of service left.

Mr Rakesh Asthana, who is an ex-CBI officer was last week appointed as Delhi Police Commissioner despite being three days from retirement.
