PM Modi Virtually Attends Special G20 Summit On Afghanistan

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release that PM Narendra Modi virtually attended the G20 Extraordinary Summit on Afghanistan convened by Italy and hosted by Italian Prime Minister Mr. Mario Draghi. The summit focused on Afghanistan on three fronts: humanitarian issues, counter terrorism, and human rights.

PM Modi remarked in the meeting that “over 500 development projects have been implemented by India in Afghanistan”, and emphasized the historical and cultural connections between the two countries. He said that an “inclusive administration” was key to prevent terrorism, arms, and drugs trade to affect the country and its bordering neighbours, calling these three a part of a “nexus”.

Protecting the socio-economic gains of the past 20 years, and stemming radicalization would be achieved by having an inclusive dispensation that brings in women and minorities. He called for renewed support” for the message of UN Security Council Resolution 2593 on Afghanistan.
