Power Outages In Multiple States, Patient In Rajasthan Loses Life, Goa Dept. Tweets In ‘Frustration’

India is facing a coal shortage in its thermal power plants in many states as heatwave has been declared and demand for power surges. A recent report by the Central Electricity Department said that out of 173 plants there are 100 without adequate supplies of coal, and stock is depleted by 25% as against normal levels. Power outages are being reported from multiple states, and in one case even caused the death of a woman patient in Rajasthan on ventilator support.

There were power outages reported in pockets of Mumbai, coming as the Maharashtra state electricity department faces a supply shortage and discoms have been cutting electricity for load shedding. The outages were reported from Central Mumbai, and suburban areas like Bhandup and Mulund. The cause is not officially confirmed as of yet.

Similarly, Jharkhand’s power outages caught the attention of Sakshi Dhoni, wife of cricketer M.S. Dhoni who hails from the state. She said online that as the state faces soaring temperatures of 40 degree Celsius, there has been load shedding.

Goa Electricity Dept. Catches Eyeballs With ‘Candid’ Tweets

Meanwhile, the Goa Electricity Department caught the attention of netizens today with its ‘candid’ tweets expressing frustration at ongoing power cuts in the state. It tweeted that “I also have no lights and would be anytime fading aways [sic] from you all until supply restored and mobile and laptop charged”.

Woman Patient Dies In Kota, Rajasthan After Power Failure

In a video posted yesterday, an elderly lady lost her life in Kota, Rajasthan following a power outage that interrupted her ventilator support. Her family members were seen holding up a mobile flashlight while doctors tried to resuscitate her using CPR.
