Private Bus Strikes Called Off As Kerala CM Promises Raise In Ticket Prices

According to the bus owners, the ongoing strike by private buses in Kerala was called off on Sunday morning after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan promised that the state government will shortly raise ticket rates.

According to Sathyan, president of the Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation, the private bus owners organisations were summoned to the Secretariat on Sunday morning by the Chief Minister, who informed them that the minimum ticket costs will be hiked as requested.

According to him, State Road Transport Minister Antony Raju was also in attendance during the meeting.

According to Sathyan, the Chief Minister told the private bus operators that they will receive all required support to continue operating their services and requested them to end their strike, which began three days ago on March 24.

He stated that the strike had been put off for the time being due to the government's guarantee.

The strike began in response to rising petrol prices, with the goal of raising ticket prices.

The private bus owners had previously claimed that the transport minister had assured them that ticket costs would be hiked since November of last year, but that nothing had been done, causing them to call for a strike.

Private bus operators have urged that the minimum fee be raised to Rs 12 and that the student concessional ticket be raised to Rs 6.

They've also asked for a hike in the kilometre price from 90 paise to Rs 1.10 per kilometre, as well as a road tax exemption for the Covid-19 pandemic period.
