“Taliban Scared Of Women’s Voices”: Malala Yusufzai At SDG Action Zone

In Day 3 Of SDG Action Zone conducted during the ongoing UN General Assembly, Nobel Peace Laureate and feminist icon Malala Yusufzai, who was shot by the Pakistani Taliban in 2011 for advocating for women’s education, spoke at the SDG Action Zone event organized as part of the 76th UNGA. She said that pursuing education was a basic human right. She said that she knew her right to study was protected by her country’s (Pakistan) constitution, the UN Charter of Human Rights, and by her Islam as well.

She said that the Taliban had spread terrorism and violence in the region, and womena dn girls like her were very much aware and experienced about the situation. She said that Afghan women, especially those who have had the chance to work, study, and live independently, must not back down and fight for their rights.

She listed the various advantages that education would accord to a society, including alleviating poverty and mitigating the climate crisis. The SDG Action Zone’s third day focuses on climate change and the interconnected problems and pathways towards managing it. One of the sub topics of the agenda is women’s role in climate change management.
