UK PM Boris Johnson May Skip India's R-Day Parade Due To New COVID-19 Strain

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's India visit - he is to be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade in Delhi next month - "may not be possible" amid fears over the fast-spreading mutated version of the novel coronavirus in the UK, said Dr. Chaand Nagpaul, the Chair of the Council of the British Medical Association, according to a media report. However, he said that this is not an official statement.

A new COVID-19 strain has been found in the UK recently that is said to be 70% more infectious. More than 40 countries including India have banned flights coming from and to Britain. Although the World Health Organization says that even though this strain is spreading faster than the coronavirus, it is not as lethal.
