UNGA: SDG Action Zone, Energy Summit To Focus On Climate, Green Energy

The SDG Action Zone Day 3 and the High Level Dialogue On Energy (HLDE) are slated for 24th September 2021 at the 76th United Nations General Assembly. Both these events will focus on clean, affordable energy, and accelerating the actions required to achieve SDG 7.

Similarly, Day 3 of the SDG Action Zone Summit will be conducted on the theme of “Climate”. It will focus on intersecting issues of indigenous rights, women’s role in climate change management, climate finance, and transformation of food systems.

The UN says that the HLDE is “the first gathering of leaders in more than 40 years at the UN solely devoted to energy issues”. Over 100 member states have inscribed to participate in the summit. It will include not just governmental leaders but also businesses, civil society, youth organizations. The HLDE will have two outcomes: creating a roadmap that accelerates the progress towards meeting SDG 7 by 2030, and voluntary commitment from member states called “Energy Compacts”.

India will participate in the HLDE in an event organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and Permanent Mission of India to the UN, titled ‘Ambition To Impact: Opportunities for Global Collaboration in India’s Clean Energy Economy’.
