Union Health Minister Announces Vaccines For 12-14 Age Group From March 16

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated on Monday that India will begin vaccinating children aged 12 to 14 years old on March 16 as part of an expansion of its COVID-19 immunisation coverage.

Co-morbidity will no longer be a requirement for those aged 60 and up to receive a preventive dose. Booster shots are now available to everyone in that age range.

"After due deliberation with scientific bodies, the Union Government has decided to begin COVID19 vaccination for the 12-13 and 13-14 year age groups (those born in 2008, 2009, and 2010. i.e. those who are already over 12 years of age) of the population on March 16, 2022," the health ministry said in a statement.

Corbevax, made by Biological Evans in Hyderabad, would be used to give the COVID-19 vaccine.

So far, more than 180 crore vaccination doses have been administered across the country. Following a massive increase in instances in January, fueled by Omicron, the country is now seeing a decrease in cases. Only 2,503 instances were reported on Monday, the lowest daily increase in 680 days.
