After Uttarakhand Election Results, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Resigns

On Friday, Uttarkhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced his resignation. His resignation comes just one day after he was defeated in the Khatima assembly constituency poll.

"Since we've obtained a fresh mandate and current term is up, I, along with the rest of the cabinet, submitted our resignations to the governor. He advised me to keep going until the new government was sworn in.

"People have shown their affection for us, and we've seen extraordinary outcomes," Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted.

Pushkar Singh Dhami was defeated by Congress candidate Bhuwan Chandra Kapri in the Khatima Assembly constituency by a margin of 6,579 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will, however, return to power in Uttarakhand after winning 47 seats in the 70-seat assembly, 11 more than the required majority.

On February 14, Uttarakhand Assembly elections were held in a single phase, with results announced on March 10.
