Voting Underway For 1st Phase Of First-Ever DDC Elections In J&K

Voting has begun for the first-ever District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir. In the first phase, voting is taking place on 43 out of 280 constituencies and will conclude at 2 pm. Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair voting.

The plan is to conduct the DDC elections in eight phases with voting for the final phase on December 19. On December 22, its results will come. The 234 vacant seats of the urban local bodies are also going to the by-elections simultaneously.

In the elections, parties such as the National Conference, People's Democratic Party, People's Conference, and CPI (M) are contesting in coalition under the Gupkar declaration. Apart from these, the National Party Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party have also fielded their candidates.
