Restaurant chain Mithaas is the latest eatery to fall prey to cybercriminals after Haldiram's. Mithaas' servers were allegedly hacked data with ransomware on October 22, with Noida police launching a probe into the matter, according to the authorities.
The case comes soon after a similar incident with fast food and snack giant Haldiram's, whose servers were also similarly attacked with ransomware, a method used by hackers to infect the user's systems with a virus, encrypt data and then demand a ransom to decrypt it.
There has been a significant rise in the number of cyber-related crimes in recent times, especially after the pandemic lockdown. According to the latest National Crime Record Bureau's (NCRB) data, India recorded a massive increase of 63.5% in cybercrime cases in 2019.
