COVID-19: 2.86 Lakh Cases, 573 Deaths, Daily Positivity Rate Up To 19.59%; DDMA Meet On Lifting Curbs Today

India recorded 2.86 lakh () cases in the past 24 hours, an increase over the precvious day’s total of 2.85 lakh (2,85,914) cases. The death toll of 573 is also lesser than yesterday’s 665 deaths, whereas this week’s highest deaths were recorded on January 21st with 703 deaths.

There are 22.02 lakh (22,02,472) active cases representing 5.46% of the total cases. 3.06 lakh (3,06,357) people have recovered until 9.10 AM today, representing a recovery rate of 93.33%. he daily positivity rate is 19.59%, up from 16.16% on the previous day, while the weekly positivity rate is 17.75%.

Over 163.84 crore vaccines have been administered so far in the country, with 22.35 lakh (22,35,267) vaccines administered on the day ending at 9 AM today and more than 13 lakh vaccination doses administered at the time of writing.

Maharashtra (Daily: 35,756 Total: 76.05 lakh )  Kerala (Daily: 49,771 Total: 57.74 lakh ) Karnataka (Daily: 48,905 Total: 36.54 lakh ), and Tamil Nadu (Daily: 29,976 Total:  32.24 lakh ) continue to be the states with the most coronavirus infections, with Kerala seeing the highest number of fatalities at 140.

The national capital Delhi recorded 7,498 cases until 9 AM today, which is an increase over the 6,028 infections recorded on Tuesday. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will conduct a meeting to decide on lifting restrictions relatd to the pandemic, which will be chaired by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal along with officials and experts. The meeting is likely to be held at 12.30 PM today.
