Daughters Have Equal Rights To Parental Property: Supreme Court

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said that daughters will have equal rights in their father's property.

The Bench of Justice Arun Mishra has clarified that this is an interpretation of the amendment to the succession law 2005. That is, even if the father died before the amendment in the law, daughters still have equal rights in the father's property.

The Supreme Court has made it clear through its decision that on 5 September 2005, Parliament amended the succession law of the Hindu Undivided Family(HUF). In the law, daughters are given equal share in their father's property.
