DDMA To Decide On Stricter COVID Curbs For Delhi Today As Cases See Spike

UPDATE: Curfews announced for weekends and nights in Delhi after DDMA Meeting

Coronavirus cases are rising continuously in the national capital Delhi and elsewhere in the country, leading to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to mull stricter curbs in a meeting held today. Delhi saw a 28% spike in cases on Monday, with state health minister Satyendra Jain saying that 84% of new cases registered over the past two days are being driven by the Omicron variant of the virus.

Delhi registered 2,589 cases of Coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The DDMA had last issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ on December 28th in view of rising cases in the capital.

At present, there are 2,008 containment zones in the city and the number of occupied hospital beds also went up from 307 ion Sunday to 420 on Monday. At present, there are 1,892 cases of the new Omicron variant in 23 states. There have been many reports that say that the infections from Omicron variant are not as severe as the Delta variant that had caused much of the havoc of the second wave in 2021.
