Farmers' Tractor Rally: Centre Withdraws Plea After SC Asks Delhi Police To Decide

The Supreme Court Wednesday said it was “inappropriate” for the top court to act on the Centre’s plea seeking an injunction against the proposed farmers' tractor rally scheduled on January 26. Stating that it was not for the court to pass orders, the bench said that the question of who should be allowed into Delhi to hold protests is a law and order issue that has to be handled by the police and not the court. The Centre, later, withdrew the petition.

The farmers, meanwhile, are determined to get the laws repealed. Preparations are underway for the proposed tractor rally on Republic Day. As per reports, Police tried convincing the farmers to hold their protest on KMP Expressway and not march towards Kisan Ghat or take other routes, but couldn’t reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, the tenth round of talks between the government and representatives of protesting farmers on controversial new farm laws will take place today, as the agitation enters its 56th day.
