Indian Wrestler Anshu Malik In Contention For Bronze Through Repechage Rule

India’s Anshu Malik, who is the reigning Asian champion, lost to two-time world championship bronze medallist Iryna Kurachkina 8-2 in the women’s freestyle 57kg Wrestling 1/8 Finals at the Tokyo Olympics.

Irene Kurachkina then went on to defeat Valeria Koblova in the 1/4 Final. Now, she faces Bulgaria’s Evelina Nikolova in the semi-finals, and if Irene wins that match, it gives Anshu Malik an opportunity to bag the bronze medal for India through the Repechage Rule.

The repechage rule allows wrestlers who had earlier lost in the competition, a second chance if the person to whom they had lost to, reaches the final.
