Shatrughan Sinha of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Babul Supriyo of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) submitted their nominations as candidates for the bypolls in Asansol and Ballygunge, respectively, on Monday.
The Trinamool Congress TMC stated on March 12 that actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who just joined the party, will run for the Asansol Lok Sabha bypoll, while former Union minister Babul Supriyo will run for the Ballygunge Assembly bypolls.
On April 12, by-elections for both seats will take place. While Babul Supriyo joined the TMC after leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in September last year, Shatrughan Sinha announced his membership two days after Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee announced that he will run for the Asansol assembly seat in the West Bengal bypolls on the party's ticket.
When BJP MP Babul Supriyo switched to the TMC in September 2021, the Asansol seat became vacant.
Keya Ghosh, the BJP's candidate for the Ballygunge Assembly seat, has been nominated by the party.
