Modi Slams Congress On Free Speech: 'Lata's Brother Fired For Savarkar Poem'

PM Modi’s response to President Ram Nath Kovind's address in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Congress party. Modi said he has had countless lessons on freedom of expression and would like to remind everyone of how the Congress-led government fired Lata Mangeshkar's brother from All India Radio for delivering a poem about Veer Savarkar.

"I'm exposing the history of those who claim to be advocates for individual liberty." Lata Mangeshkar family was from goa. The country, on the other hand, deserves to know how the Congress treated her family. Hridaynath Mangeshkar, her younger brother, had been fired from All India Radio. "His mistake was that he read a poem by Veer Savarkar about patriotism," Modi stated in the House.

"This is your right to free expression," PM added. "There were other injustices under the Congress regime — not just against Hridaynath ji; the list is rather big," the PM remarked.

Continuing from where PM left off in the Lok Sabha yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the Rajya Sabha that "talent is the first casualty of dynasty politics" and rattled off a number of ways the country would be different "if Congress had not been there."

"They believe in discrediting, destabilizing, and dismissing... great speeches about federalism are delivered, but have we forgotten about chief ministers being dismissed for minor reasons? Our viewpoints differ from those of Congress" According to the Prime Minister.
