Russia- Ukraine Conflict Day 28: Rubizhne, Kyiv, Mariupol Under Russian Attack, EU Oil Embargo Unlikely, Other Updates

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has entered its 28th day today as civilian casualties continue to be reported from various parts of Ukraine. In the latest information, 3 people, including 2 children, were killed in Rubizhne, eastern Ukriane, in Russian strikes. At least 4 were reported injured in overnight shelling on Kyiv that targeted a shopping centre, residential building, and a house on Tuesday, March 22nd. 

Local media cited ‘British intelligence’ saying that Russia is trying to ‘encircle’ Ukraine’s positions in the east by advancing from the north and south. 

Nine humanitarian corridors for facilitating civilian evacuations have been created as of Wednesday, March 23rd, tweeted Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk: 

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said that over 100,000 people were trapped in the southeastern city of Mariupol in “inhuman conditions” due to a Russian blockade and attacks. Russia had demanded that that Ukraine surrender Mariupol by Monday, March 21st, which was refused. 

The Ukrainian Defence Ministry posted visuals from fighting in Chernihiv to the north near the border of Belarus and Russia. Local channel Nexta showed visuals of Ukrainian forces fighting Russian troops near Kyiv
