During a speech to mark Nowruz, the Persian New Year, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, voiced hopes for the recovery of his country's economy on Sunday.

Iran's economy has suffered as a result of the United States' imposition of harsh sanctions in 2018, following its unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and other powers.

During his broadcast speech, Khamenei remarked, "These economic difficulties are treatable, and we expect that some of them will go this year."

He said that the issues would "not all go away at once, but gradually."

"Rising prices and inflation," Khamenei added, were the most challenging issues he faced last year.

Iran has been in direct talks with Britain, China, France, Germany, and Russia in Vienna to restore the 2015 nuclear deal. Indirectly, the United States has been involved.

The Iranian New Year, which begins on Monday, will be focused on production and employment development, according to Khamenei.

"National production is the only way to overcome the country's economic troubles and challenges," he stated.
