The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won their second game in a row in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Monday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 8 wickets.

The SRH openers, Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma – got off to a careful start in pursuit of chasing 163, with Kane Williamson leading from the front with a very well 57, which was well backed by Abhishek Sharma's 42 at the top as SRH chased down the score of 163 runs with 5 balls to spare.

SRH were 42/0 at the conclusion of the powerplay after scoring 11 runs in the first four overs. Williamson smashed a four and a six, while Abhishek Sharma smashed four fours. In the following over, Sharma was caught at deep mid-wicket by Sudharsan for 42 runs off Rashid Khan, ending the fifty-run partnership. After Rahul Tripathi's first four of the innings, SRH were 75/1. Williamson and Tripathi kept the runs going even when the boundaries didn't come.

As SRH needed 65 off the final seven overs, Williamson shifted the tempo by smashing consecutive sixes against Pandya in the 13th over. Tripathi smashed the opening ball of the 14th over for six runs, however he was forced to leave the game due to injury. After the SRH skipper smashed a maximum to reach fifty, the 16th over yielded 13 runs. Following Williamson's catch at long-on by Tewatia in the 17th over, Hardik Pandya dismissed the opponent captain.

Pooran slammed a six and a four under pressure with 28 required off the final three overs, reducing the equation to only 13 required from 12 deliveries. SRH completed the goal with five balls to spare after Pooran and Markram both struck fours. Earlier, the Gujarat Titans were given the opportunity to bat first, with neither team changing their lineups.

Shubman Gill and Mathew Wade, the GT openers, raced to 24/0 in the first two overs before Rahul Tripathi dismissed Gill in the third over with a superb diving catch inside the circle. Wade, on the other hand, got off to a terrific start with three fours, but Sai Sudharsan was caught at mid-off by Williamson off Natarajan, and SRH took their second wicket. Hardik Pandya, the GT captain, got off to a good start with a four, and the team was 51/2 after six overs. In the eighth over, Pandya hit two fours against Umran Malik, but the pacer prevailed after trapping Wade LBW.

After Pandya's first six of the innings, GT were 80/3 at the midway mark. After Miller was caught at mid-wicket by Abhishek Sharma, Jansen broke the solid partnership between Miller and Pandya. GT were 118/4 with five overs to play as new batsman Abhinav Manohar scored successive fours against Malik.

Manohar was hitting the ball neatly after scoring 13 runs off the 18th over, which included three fours and a six. Manohar was dropped twice, but was eventually removed when Tripathi held on to a deep catch. As SRH scalped two wickets and GT finished the first innings with a total of 162/7, Natarajan gave only 7 runs in the penultimate over.
