The Delhi Assembly convened a special session today in which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal praised the resilience of the farmers’ protest movement and its completion of one year. Kejriwal expressed happiness tha thte three farming laws whoch had triggered the protests had been repealed.

He said that while the Centre had imagined that the farmers would agitate for a few days and then return to their homes, the farmers had “broken the arrogance” of the government. The farmers or the larger public had not been consulted before the laws were passed because the brute majority in the Parliament gave them the false confidence that they can impose anything they want.

He said that all those who wish well for the country supported this protest, including women, traders, students, youth, people of all religions and castes, etc. and Kejriwal congratulated all people of the country for the same.

Longest Movement, Earlier Example Of 1907 Was Also Farmer-Led

Arvind Kejriwal said that this was comparable to the independence movement itself, and said that this was the longest protest movement in the world.

The earlier example was also led by farmers in 1907, Kejriwal said. Here, tehe farmers had to carry out a campaign against their own elected government, and 700 of them were “martyred” in their own country in a fight against their own government. He saluted the farmers and said that their soul must be at peace now that they have achieved the objective for which they sacrificed themselves.

He criticised the fact that farmers were abused and smeared with various labels such as “Khalistani” and “anti-national”.
