The logo of Doordarshan was designed by Devashis Bhattacharya a graduate from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. The DD signature tune was composed by Pandit Ravi Shankar. 

Ustad Ali Ahmed Hussain Khan helped Pandit Ravi Shankar in the thematic rendition of 'Saarey Jehan Se Achchha' in the DD tune. It was first broadcast on April 1, 1076. The words 'Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram' were dropped in later animations.  DD today is the largest broadcaster in the world with 21 channels and 46 studios across the country
