Rajasthan HC Summons Acquitted Persons In Pehlu Khan Lynching Case
The Rajasthan High Court has summoned the six accused persons in the lynching and murder of Pehlu Khan in Rajasthan in 2017, who were acquitted by a trial court in 2019 of the nine accused in total. The summon was issued after the court admitted a plea by the deceased’s kin and clubbed it with the state government’s appeal against the Alwar court’s decision.
The court has issued “bailable warrants against the accused-respondents to secure their presence before this court in the sum of Rs. 10,000, returnable within a period of eight weeks”. Pehlu Khan was a dairy farmer who was lynched in Alwar following a mob’s “suspicions” that he was transporting cattle for slaughter. The lower court had criticised the Rajasthan Police’s investigation and acquitted six of the nine accused for lack of evidence.
