Kulhaiya Muslims are a community of Muslims specific to Seemanchal area of Bihar, with significant population in Purnea, Araria, Katihar and some parts of Kishanganj. This is a backward Muslim community that is key to electoral politics in the area, but have not reaped much benefit from government schemes. Locals here face the fury of flood every year, rue the fact that agricultural income is not sufficient for survival, and the lockdown made things worse when farmers had to sell their produce, specially maze which is a key crop here suffering huge loss.
