Western countries, along with Japan, have imposed sanctions on Russian institutions and individuals after Tuesday's developments and emergency meeting at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The U.S., E.U, Australia, U.K, Canada, and Japan have targeted Russia with economic sanctions after it recognized two breakaway pro-Russian regions of Easter Ukraine, Luhansk and Donetsk, collectively known as the Donbass region.
