After the breakdown of the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ alliance in Bihar, the Congress and RJD have come face to face in by-polls about to be conducted at the end of this month. The Congress’ state in-charge Bhakt Charan Singh has said on Friday that the party will be going it alone and is not part of the alliance any more.

By Polls In Bihar

Two seats in Bihar, Tarapur and Kusheshwar, are up for the contest on 30th October. Incumbent JD(U) candidates Mewalal Chadhary and Shashibhushan Chaudhary had won from these seats in the 2020 Assembly elections. They are no more and hence by-polls are being conducted.

Rift Between Congress And RJD

Former CPI leader and Kanhaiya Kumar was recently inducted into the Congress party on 29th September and this has caused the CPI to be miffed with the Congress. It was a setback for the RJD as well because because both the parties (CPI and RJD) were members of the alliance and it made the leaders in the Mahagathbandhan look like defectors and opportunists. After this, there were differences between the Congress and RJD over candidate selection in Tarapur and Kusheshwar seats which further worsened the rift.

The Kusheshwar seat is perceived as a bastion by the Congress, but the RJD had made it clear that it is not willing to give up on it either. The Mahagathbandhan has suffered and fallen apart because of this doubling down by both sides on this issue.
