Ten Indian States Account For 90% Of COVID-19 Acti
The country recorded its biggest single day spike of 1,553 new COVID-19 cases and 36 deaths over the past 24 hours. Total cases now stand at 17,265 and deaths at 543 with 2,546 patients recovering from the disease, according to the Health Ministry latest update.

At 4,203, Maharashtra leads in terms of the number of active COVID-19 cases, as of April 19. A month ago on March 14, the reported cases in the state were 14. Active cases exclude deaths and recoveries from the list of confirmed cases.


Delhi, which had 7 cases on March 14, has the second most number of active cases (2,003), followed by Gujarat (1,743) which had zero cases in mid-March.

At 1,478 cases, Rajasthan has the fourth-highest number of active cases, closely followed by Tamil Nadu (1,477). On March 14, cases in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu were 3 and 1 respectively.


The top five states together account for 64 percent of the active cases nationally, and the top ten states account for 90 percent of all cases. 


At the sixth place, Madhya Pradesh coronavirus cases grew from zero to 1407 in this period. At 1,100 active cases, Uttar Pradesh has the seventh-highest number of cases, up from 12 cases on March 14.

The number of active cases has risen from 14 to 858 in Telangana, from 1 to 647 in Andhra Pradesh, and from 19 to 401 in Kerala between March 14 to April 19.
