China’s First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Enters Service
China’s first domestically made aircraft carrier, the ‘Shandong’ officially entered service in the expanding Chinese navy. President Xi Jinping attended the Shandong’s commissioning in the naval port of Sanya in south China's Hainan Province. The new aircraft carrier is named after the Shandong Province in east China.
After the ceremony, Xi boarded the Shandong and reviewed the guards of honour. He also inspected the onboard equipment and asked about the work and life of carrier-based aircraft pilots. The CNS Shandong will provide service to 40-50 aircraft, including drones and helicopters.
