Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Aged 91, Dies
Former autocratic President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak, whose political life was marred with controversies, died on Tuesday in Cairo at the age of 91.
During his reign for three decades, he had survived multiple assassination attempts and suppressed a wave of radical Islamic terrorism, however, he was ultimately brought down by the popular unrest against poverty, corruption and repressive police tactics, later called to known as the Arab Spring.
Mubarak spent his final years at the Maadi Military Hospital in southern Cairo during which he was battling courtroom charges of corruption and conspiracy to murder. He was found guilty of complicity to the killing of protesters during the revolution. In March 2017, the conviction was overturned and he was released.
