Bhopal: Protest Against Turning Institute Into Qua
Students and teachers of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) are outraged against the administration’s decision of turning their institute into a quarantine centre to treat COVID-19 patients in Bhopal. While some protesting students say that their hostel rooms should not be converted into a quarantine centre, others fear that their belongings might get stolen.

The administration has opened their hostel rooms to be used as quarantine centres to treat COVID-19 patients. Students holding posters and placards say that their hostel rooms should not be converted into a quarantine centre.

‘India should become self-sufficient and educational institutions should not be used for other purposes,’ a poster read.

Kamal Singh, a teacher, said that if the corona infected patients are kept here then there will be a danger of spreading the infection inside the campus.

The protesting students also urged CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Bhopal DM Tarun Pithode on Twitter to intervene in the matter. Indravesh, a student, wrote that he had no problem that his room is being used for COVID-19 patients but he fears that his belongings might get stolen.

Bhopal is the second most-affected district by COVID-19 in Madhya Pradesh after Indore.

Out of 1,511 cases, 489 are active cases. So far 59 deaths have been reported in Bhopal.

28 quarantine centers with more than 800 capacity have been set up here. Preparations are underway to build some new quarantine centers, including MANIT.
