COVID-19 & Pollution Hit Delhi; AQI Nears 370 In Janakpuri
India’s capital Delhi is in the grip of pollution along with the Coronavirus. After Diwali, the air quality index in many areas of Delhi touched 999. After that, a few days of improvement was observed due to gusty winds, but now pollution has started increasing once again. According to the Central Pollution Control Board's air monitoring app 'SAMEER’, the air quality index in Delhi on Monday was recorded at a maximum of 370, which falls in the “very poor” category.
The air quality in Delhi's Janakpuri was the worst. Air Quality Index (AQI) 368 was recorded in Janakpuri. Apart from this, 329 were recorded in Lajpat Nagar, 326 in Wazirpur, 321 in Ashok Vihar and Bawana, 314 in Chandni Chowk and Rohini, 312 in Anand Vihar and 311 in Sultanpuri.
Noida-Ghaziabad adjoining Delhi also had air quality in the “poor” category. The Air Quality Index 368 was recorded at Loni in Ghaziabad. While AQI 321 was recorded in Sanjay Nagar. At 301, Noida Sector-116 recorded the highest pollution. The Air Quality Index 302 was recorded here. Besides, Noida Sector-62 recorded 288 and 284 in Greater Noida. The air of Gurugram was also worse than before. The PM2.5 level was recorded 304 in Sector 51, 297 in Vikas Sadan while 281 in Manesar. According to SAFAR India, the wind speed was recorded at 12 km/hour on Sunday, which increases pollutants. Meanwhile, the ventilation index was recorded at 6,500 sqm/second. From Monday, wind speeds can be up to 8 km per hour. Besides, the ventilation index can reach 15,000 sqm/second. With this, the air of the capital is expected to reach the ‘poor’ to 'very poor’ category.
