Kerala CM: Liquor Allowed On Doctor’s Prescription
Amid the nationwide lockdown, state governments are taking several steps to maintain normalcy. Arrangements are being made for people’s stay, food, medicines and even liquor.

People in Kerala are committing suicide because liquor is not available during the lockdown. CM Pinarayi Vijayan has directed the Excise Department to provide liquor to those with a prescription from doctors and said that people who are showing symptoms of overcoming their alcohol addiction should be admitted to hospitals and given free-of-cost treatment. Vijayan also said that the government is mulling over online sale of liquor because a sudden stop in alcohol sales could lead to social problems.

Meanwhile, tele-medicine services have been started in Mangaluru’s Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital, on the basis of which patients can contact doctors through the mobile application WhatsApp and consult them for medical advice.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration in Uttar Pradesh has ordered landlords to not ask their tenants for rent for the time being.

Kushal Pal from Noida’s Barola village has waived off the rent of his 50 tenants. He also distributed packets of wheat flour among his tenants, drivers and security guards. Pal said, “Everyone should come forward to help each other during such testing times. I get around Rs 1.50 lakh per month as rent from my 50 tenants but I have waived it off.”

Urmila Devi used to work at a clothes shop in Jharkhand’s Bokaro and her husband Raju Das used to play the drum in weddings but their work has stopped due to the lockdown.

Urmila Devi had to take a loan for her household expenses and she has started a vegetable shop. She said that the situation is very difficult and they are making efforts to earn money to keep their four children alive. They have appealed to the Hemant Soren government for help.

Amid this, the AIIMS Trauma Centre in Delhi has been declared as the ‘corona hospital’.
