Western India, Not North India Has More Educated Jobseekers
“There is no dearth of job opportunities in the country. Recruiters who visit north India complain of dearth of quality people for the posts they need to fill,” said Gangwar.
After the Minister’s remark, Go News examined data provided on the National Career Service (NCS) portal, which comes under his own Ministry of Labour and Employment. This portal provides data on the total number of job vacancies, job providers and educated job seekers registered with employment exchanges across India. The state-wise data of NCS shows there are more educated unemployed in Western India than North India. Western India that comprises three states Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, and two union territories, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, has 42.48 lakh educated job seekers that account for 40.6% of unemployment in the country. Of which, 40.89 lakhs (39%) job seekers are in Maharashtra alone. In North India, which comprises seven states including Uttar Pradesh and two union territories, 12.22 lakh people are educated job seekers, which is less than one-third of Western India. Eastern India comprises four states, which has 32.96 lakh educated job seekers. Whereas Central India including two states has 1.10 lakh active job seekers. With five states and two union territories, South India has 5.35 lakh educated job seekers. While the number across the eight North-East states stands at 1.88 lakh. NCSP figures suggest that as of September 16, there are 10.43 million active job seekers against only 3.99 lakh available jobs across the country. As per an August 31 update, there were 10.45 educated job seekers in India. Such poor record indicates that on average the chance of getting a job is less than four for every 100 educated job seeker.
