Cruelty In The Time Of Corona In MP & UP
After a shocking incident of an elderly man tied to a hospital bed allegedly over non-payment of bills in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur came to light, the district administration on Monday sealed the hospital.

The 80-year-old patient, Laxminarayan Dangi, was admitted to the City Hospital in Shajapur after he complained of pain in the abdomen.

On June 6, Laxminarayan was cured and the hospital handed his family a bill of Rs 11,270. According to his daughter, Sheela, they had deposited Rs 11,000 but the hospital administration tied her old father to the hospital bed for a mere Rs 270.

The financial condition of the family is in bad shape. They have a BPL card but are not getting the benefit of welfare schemes.

Laxminarayan neither has the Ayushman Yojana beneficiary card nor a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Describing the act “inhuman” and “barbaric”. former CM Kamal Nath tweeted: During the Coronavirus pandemic, inhuman behavior, fleecing and arbitrariness is continuing in several private hospitals of the State. There is no one to listen to the public. The government should take strict action against the culprits in this incident.”

A similar incident came to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad where an eight-month-old pregnant woman died on Friday after she failed to get admission in eight hospitals in Ghaziabad and Noida.

Neelam Kumari, 30, was shuttling around from one hospital to another in an auto-rickshaw with her husband Vijendra Singh for about 13 hours.

Private hospitals refused to admit her, saying that the treatment cost would be higher for the family to afford.
