Maharashtra Govt Orders CID Probe Into Palghar Lyn
The Maharashtra government has ordered a Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe into the Palghar lynching incident.

State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that an IG-level officer in the CID will investigate this matter. He said that 101 accused persons have been arrested in this case and there is no Muslim among the arrested persons.

Deshmukh said that a video going viral on social media is fake.

He said, “In the video, the sound of ‘Oye bas’ can be heard. Some people are circulating it online, saying that it is actually ‘Shoaib bas’. At this time, all states are engaged in battling the coronavirus but some people are trying to give it a communal colour.”

A mob lynching incident had come to light in Maharashtra’s Palghar on Thursday night. People from the Gadchinchale village of Palghar district had beaten three people to death.

It is being said that a rumour that thieves were wandering around the village was doing the rounds, because of which people were standing guard there.

Amid this, a car arrived in the village, carrying two ‘sadhus’ (ascetics) and their driver. They were going from Mumbai to Surat, to participate in the last rites of a friend.

While passing through the village, its inhabitants began throwing stones at them, considering them to be thieves.

All three of them were beaten to death.
