Farmers in Punjab have started a three-day 'rail roko' agitation in the state and are sitting on railway tracks to protest against the contentious farm bills, recently passed in Parliament. The protest was started by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee from Amritsar. The farmers sitting on the railway track said that their 'rail roko' movement would continue for three days.

Apart from Amritsar, farmers have glued themselves on railway tracks in several districts including Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Pathankot, and Patiala due to which at least 14 trains have been canceled and routes of many trains have been diverted. At the same time, the Punjab government has asked all the departments to be alert during the September 24 to 26 agitation and Punjab bandh. The health department of the government has prepared to deploy ambulances, doctors, and paramedical staff near the protesting sites. Apart from this, other departments have also been activated.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has claimed that agricultural bills will bring revolutionary changes in the lives of farmers. He said that in the present system, the farmer was forced to sell his crop in the mandi and there was no other system, but now the farmer will be able to sell his produce outside the mandi and that too at the price of his will.

On the question of not including the MSP in the Agriculture Bill, he said that the MSP was never part of any law, it was an administrative decision even before and it is still an administrative decision. He said that the Congress party is saying that the MSP should be legally accepted, but when the Congress was in government for 50 years, they did not do so.

In the midst of farmers' protests in several states, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a dig at the Modi Govt via a tweet.
