Yamuna Make-Over Ahead Of Trump's India Visit
Prior to the two-day India visit of US President Donald Trump, while on one hand a wall is being built in front of slums in Ahmedabad, on the other hand, 500 cusecs water has been released from Bulandshahr’s Gang canal to temporarily sanitise Yamuna river ahead of his Agra visit.

President Trump is arriving in India for a two-day visit on February 23 and he will go to Agra, along with his wife Melania Trump, to see the Taj Mahal on February 24.

Along with visiting the Taj Mahal, he could also visit the banks of the Yamuna river. In such a situation, to improve the river's environmental condition, the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department has released 500 cusecs water into the river.

According to Brij Khandelwal, a convenor who campaigns for rivers, President Trump will only see the Taj Mahal and not the city of Agra, and the administration is cleaning up the area he is supposed to visit. The Taj Mahal got its identity because of the Yamuna and today the river is fighting for existence. The filth of the entire city is accumulating in the Yamuna and effective techniques should be adopted so that the river is saved.

Meanwhile, officers of the Municipal Corporation, who are engaged in sprucing up the city, say that preparations to welcome President Trump are underway in various parts of the city. Screens have been installed on roadsides so that when his convoy passes by, people can welcome him.

It’s evident that the government is making several efforts to present a different picture of India to President Trump but it is not taking any concrete steps to provide relief to people dealing with problems amid all this.
