Day 29 At Shaheen Bagh Protest Site
Protests against the Citizenship Law are underway in different parts of the country. On Sunday too, protests against the law were held in many areas of the country, among which are Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, Jamia and other places. People in thousands participated in these protests.

In Shaheen Bagh, protests against the Citizenship Law and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) have been going on for around a month now, and people have been protesting in the middle of the road 24 hours of the day. This protest is garnering support from a cross-section of people.

On Sunday, a precedent of national unity was set in Shaheen Bagh, when during havan, verses from the Quran and the Bible were recited, and Gurbani was also sung.

Congress leader and former Union minister Shashi Tharoor took part in the protests at Shaheen Bagh and Jamia and extended his support to the cause. Tharoor described the women protesters as brave and terming the Citizenship Law ‘undemocratic’, called it a blot on India’s democracy.

Meanwhile, an important meeting of opposition parties on the Citizenship Law and NRC is scheduled to be held in Delhi on Monday, in which the opposition will hold detailed discussions on the two matters.

However, chances of the participation of BSP supremo Mayawati and TMC president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this meeting are slim.
